More about Uganda

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

You can find us in the lovely, dusty, unique town of Gulu in northern Uganda.

WASN’T THERE A WAR IN NORTHERN UGANDA?

Yes. Northern Uganda is a post conflict zone, recovering from a war that lasted 20 years. During this time, a rebel group known as the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) was known for attacking civilians and abducting children for use as soldiers or sex slaves. Many people were relocated into internally displaced persons (IDP) camps. Although the war ended in 2006, effects of the war are still apparent in the lives of many throughout northern Uganda.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN OPERATION?

Remnant began in April 2010. Learn more here.

DO YOU ONLY EMPLOY WOMEN?

Since the group we aim to help is a group of women, our beneficiaries are all women. However, we have a few men on staff in management positions. Read more here.

 WHAT LANGUAGE DO THEY SPEAK?

Uganda is a multilingual country. Our beneficiaries speak Swahili, in addition to a few different languages common to DRC. Our staff members mostly speak English and Swahili. English is the official language of Uganda, but people who have not attended school do not tend to speak any English, and speak in languages native to their regions.

DO THE WOMEN LIVE ON SITE?

No, the women we employ are paid enough to make a living on their own. They can afford to support themselves and their children in their own homes.

WHAT KIND OF PROGRAMS DO THE WOMEN ATTEND?

Please visit our Programs page here for more information.
